Translation procedures to be followed
by external organizations for the brochure:

"Towards Global Guidelines for TV Audience Measurement" (GGTAM)

 

 

Acknowledgement

The following translation procedures have been established in order to facilitate the cooperation between external organizations and the ARM group as well as to ensure the continuity of the spirit of the GGTAM.

It is understood that the copyright remains the sole property of the ARM group and that the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) located in Geneva is the sole coordinator of the GGTAM publication.

 

 

Steps towards a successfully translated edition

A. The official request for translation

  1. The external organization must first request the permission to translate the GGTAM into its local language by sending an appropriate demand to the ARM group Chairman.
  2. The ARM group will verify the seriousness of the organization willing to have a translation done.
  3. Upon receipt of the ARM group’s official approval, the external organization return the present document duly signed showing therefore it agrees to respect the translation guidelines described hereafter.

 

  1. Availability of the English version

  1. The EBU shall make the English version of the GGTAM (text and design) available on CD-rom or a PC version to the external organization as soon as possible.

 

  1. The translation of the GGTAM from English to a different language

  1. The external organization will search for the best translators available, preferably amongst those who know the sector’s industry.
  2. Translation costs shall be supported solely by the external organization which requested the translation.
  3. In order to ensure the same spirit of the GGTAM from English to the other, it is mandatory that the GGTAM published in another language than English shows the text in both languages. That means that the English version must face the foreign version in a mirror-like publication or that the English version must be printed in full at the end of the foreign version bound in the same brochure.

 

  1. Respect of the design and credits for the GGTAM 1999 edition

  1. The external organization engages itself in the respect of the design of the GGTAM 1999 edition in all the following points:

    • The design of the cover (front and back) shall remain as is with the respect of colors, fonts and size used.
    • The ARM organizations shown on the cover pages and their respective logos shall remain in place.
    • The external organization must print an acknowledgement on the back of the first cover page for being the sponsor of the translation from English to the foreign language.
    • The ARM group as a list must remain printed as the international joint industry group that has produced the GGTAM.
    • The EBU must be shown as the sponsor and publisher.

  1. The first fly-leaf must show the following acknowledgement in English:

This book is originally published in English under the title, TOWARDS GLOBAL GUIDELINES for TELEVISION AUDIENCE MEASUREMENT by European Broadcasting Union, Geneva, Switzerland.

  1. Printing & binding

  1. There are two cases:
  2. a) In countries using the Latin alphabet, EBU shall be in charge of the printing.

    b) In countries using a different alphabet (e.g. Cyrillic, Chinese, Japanese, etc.), the external organization shall be in charge of the printing locally.

  3. In both cases, a printing proof must be sent to EBU for final approval on the general look prior to the bulk printing.
  4. The printing cost will be charged to the external organization which requested the translation.

 

 

  1. Stock of the GGTAM in foreign language (except for German and Spanish versions)

  1. Should the printing be done by the external organization or EBU, most of the stock should be held by the external organization and the remaining held at EBU.
  2. Should orders for this particular language be ordered directly through EBU, EBU will coordinate the delivery according to the request.
  3. Otherwise, it is to the external organization in charge of the printing to make sure they have enough brochures available according to their marketing strategy.

 

 

  1. Costs of translation and printing – Royalties to EBU

  1. The cost of translation is fully paid by the external organization which ordered the translation.
  2. The cost of printing & binding is fully paid by the external organization which ordered the translation.
  3. Royalties have been set by the ARM group at CHF 11.- per copy. These royalties must be paid to EBU which holds the accounting for the ARM group. Payment should be made as follows:

  5. GGTAM brochures edited in a foreign language and sold in the foreign country by an organization other than EBU must not exceed the equivalent of CHF 50.- per brochure (tax and postage included).
  6. A discount must be established for bulk orders as follows:

  1. 2 to 4 brochures: less 30%
  2. 5 to 19 brochures: less 40%
  3. 20 to 99 brochures: less 50%
  4. more than 100 brochures: less 60%

 

 

  1. The procedures described above must be agreed upon by the external organization prior to any translation and/or printing work by duly signing them below and returning them to:
